Refugi 307, Barcelona
Facts and practical information
Shelter 307 is one of the best preserved examples of the network of tunnels created by the people of Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War, as a means of defence against the bombardments which, until then, had never been carried out in the West on inhabited cities.
This tunnel is one of the hundreds created at that time, and one of the few currently accessible. It was built by the residents of the neighborhood, with the help of the Generalitat de Catalunya, who also provided them with tools and materials. Its name is due to the fact that it corresponded to the tunnel number 307 to be registered in the records of the city council. Located in the district of Pueblo Seco, it was built at surface level taking advantage of the proximity to the mountain of Montjuic to be dug inside it. The tunnel forms a network of 200 meters built, with 2.10 meters high and between 1.5 and 2 meters wide.
At the moment the Refuge 307 belongs to one of the annexes of the Museum of History of Barcelona, for what its entrance is enabled for visits.
