Playa del Algarrobico, Carboneras
Facts and practical information
Algarrobico beach is a Spanish beach located 4 km north of Carboneras, to whose municipal district it belongs, accessed by the N-341 road towards Mojácar.
It is located in the natural park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar. It became famous after the construction since 2003 of the popularly known as "Hotel El Algarrobico" by the developer Azata del Sol, which caused a strong opposition and mobilization due to its illegality for breach of the Coastal Law. The case had a great media impact and due to its dimensions has been used by the media as a symbol of the poor conservation of the Spanish coast.
The proximity of the beach to the town centre means that it has an average occupancy, despite which it is poorly equipped with services and furniture.
