Església de Santa Eugènia de Berga, Santa Eugènia de Berga
Facts and practical information
The church of Santa Eugenia de Berga, is located in the center of the village of Santa Eugenia de Berga, in the region of Osona.
Built in the 11th century, it is Romanesque in style. It was enlarged during the 12th century, and later reforms in 1664 modified its plan with the creation of two lateral naves. In the restoration of 1955, the chapels were demolished to return to their original structure.
It has a Latin cross plan with a single nave covered with a barrel vault, headed by a transept with three semicircular apses with altars dedicated to Santa Cecilia, Santa Eugénia and Santiago. At the intersection of the nave and the transept there is a dome on trumpets, forming a dome on the outside, with an octagonal base, on which rises a two-storey bell tower with double windows in the first body and triple windows in the second.
The entrance doorway on the west façade stands out, with archivolts decorated with plant motifs and two pairs of sculpted capitals.
In the Episcopal Museum of Vich are preserved remains of mural paintings and two Romanesque lipsanotecas of this temple.
