The Monastery and Hospital of Santa Cristina de Somport is currently an archaeological site that contains the remains of what was once a hospice located in the municipality of Aísa, at the top of the Somport pass, near Candanchú, in the Pyrenees, in Spain. It is considered an Asset of Cultural Interest by Decree 69/2006, of 7 March, of the Government of Aragon, in the category of site of cultural interest. The monastery and hospital of Santa Cristina was born with the function of providing the poor, the sick, travellers and pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago with a place to find shelter and assistance. Its origin can be dated back to the end of the 11th century and the 12th century can be considered the century of its consolidation as an institution and its greatest expansion in the 13th century.
