The urban sculpture known as La Regenta, located in the Plaza de Alfonso II, el Casto, in the city of Oviedo, Principality of Asturias, Spain, is one of more than a hundred that adorn the streets of the aforementioned Spanish city.
The urban landscape of this city is adorned by sculptural works, generally commemorative monuments dedicated to important people at first, and more purely artistic since the late twentieth century.
The sculpture, made in bronze, is the work of Mauro Álvarez Fernández, and is dated 1997. It is a statue slightly larger than life size, which recreates a lady of the late nineteenth century, located directly on the pavement, with a plaque at her feet. It is a tribute to the character and the work in general of the great writer Leopoldo Alas "Clarín".
