Reserva Natural Dirigida de las Saladas de Chiprana
Facts and practical information
The directed nature reserve of Saladas de Chiprana is a nature reserve in Aragon, in the province of Zaragoza, comarca of Bajo Aragón-Caspe, specifically within the municipality of Chiprana. It has an area of 155 ha, with a peripheral protection area of 361 ha.
It was created on 30th November 2006, by the law 10/2006 of the Government of Aragon, under the name of Reserva Natural Dirigida de las Saladas de Chiprana. It is also a SCI.
It is an endorheic complex formed by 6 lagoons: the Salada Grande de Chiprana, the Salada de Roces, the Prado del Farol and three other smaller ones. The Salada Grande is the only one of these characteristics and of great depth in Europe, since the maximum altitude of the water level reaches 5.6 m in May. Its waters are saline and transparent, which allows, when the sunlight enters, the photosynthesis of the plant species that live there.
