Plaza Mayor, Salamanca

Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca, a city known for its stunning Renaissance architecture and rich academic history in western Spain. This grand square, enclosed by baroque buildings, is widely considered one of the most beautiful plazas in Spain and serves as a central meeting point for both locals and tourists.

Constructed between the 18th and 19th centuries under the auspices of King Philip V, Plaza Mayor is a harmonious space of uniform Baroque style. The square was designed by the renowned architect Alberto Churriguera and later completed by others, including Andrés García de Quiñones.
