Santuari de la Verge del Toro, Menorca
Facts and practical information
The sanctuary of the Virgen del Toro is a hermitage located at the top of Monte Toro. It is consecrated to the patron saint of the island of Menorca and its diocese.
The church, where the wooden altarpiece with the image of the Virgin is located, was built from 1670 onwards on top of the old Gothic church. Next to the church, forming one of the walls of the inner courtyard of the Sanctuary, there is a defence tower built in 1558 on the old watchtower.
Currently the sanctuary is managed by a community of nuns of the Daughters of the Holy Family and serves as a guest house and inn for days of reflection and prayer for different groups of Menorca.
