Kanonen, Gothenburg

Kanonen, a once-thrilling roller coaster, was an integral part of the adrenaline-pumping attractions at Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden. This steel roller coaster, which translates to "The Cannon," was known for providing its riders with an explosive experience, reminiscent of being shot out of a cannon. It was a popular fixture of the park from its inauguration in 2005 until its closure in 2016.

Designed by the renowned roller coaster manufacturer Intamin, Kanonen was a compact launch coaster that took up a relatively small footprint but delivered a big punch. The ride began with a hydraulic launch that propelled the train from 0 to 75 km/h (47 mph) in just 2 seconds, simulating the rapid acceleration of a cannonball. Following the intense launch, riders were taken through a series of twists, turns, and inversions, including a heartline roll and a vertical loop, all within a minute's time.

Kanonen stood out for its precision engineering and the efficiency of its design, offering a high-intensity experience that belied its modest size. The ride's bright red track and sharp curves were a visual highlight, easily spotted by guests as they navigated through the park's diverse attractions.

While the ride was a favorite for many thrill-seekers, Liseberg made the decision to remove Kanonen to make room for new developments and keep the park's offerings fresh and exciting.
