Mårtenstorget, Lund
Facts and practical information
Mårtenstorget is a square from 1842 in central Lund. The name comes from the medieval St. Mårten's Church, which was located southwest of the square at the former Norra Råttsträtet. In older times the square was called Oxtorget, because of the cattle trade that took place there.
Today, the square is home to Lund's market hall, the Lund Art Gallery and Krognoshuset. Other buildings at the square are the former Domus department store and the former Torna, Bara and Harjagers Härads Sparbank bank palace.
The square is currently used for shopping, every Monday to Saturday from 06.30 to 14.00, with the exception of public holidays. Other times the square is used as a car park.
Outside the art hall there are several works of art, such as a fountain in the paving stones and a lectern and bench.
