Brodds sten, Norrtälje
Facts and practical information
Runic inscription U 530, also called Brodds sten, was a rune stone in Norrtälje that disappeared in the 17th century. The stone was located in the mill stream in Norrtäljeån where it was picked up and marked by the antiquarian Johannes Haquini Rhezelius in 1633. Ten years later, Johan Hadorph and Petrus Helgonius visited Norrtälje, and the stone was then broken, and only a fragment could be found, walled in a cellar wall, possibly in the vicarage. This fragment, which was still there at the end of the 17th century, also disappeared later, possibly when the Russians burned Norrtälje in 1719.
In 2004, a replica of the rune stone was erected according to Johannes Haquini Rhezelius' sketches. The replica was placed in approximately the same place where it was when Johannes Haquini Rhezelius documented it.
