Sankt Lars Church is a Roman Catholic church in Uppsala. The church's name comes from the Catholic saint Saint Lars, who is also the church's patron saint.
After the Uppsala meeting, Uppsala had no Catholic church until the 20th century, and Catholic feasts were celebrated only in private homes. In the 1930s the need for a Catholic church in Uppsala returned and in 1943 Uppsala's first Catholic chapel since the Reformation was founded. 1985 saw the opening of St. Lars Church Centre. The parish has an estimated 2,600 members from about 70 different countries.
The Missionary Sisters of the Holy Name of Mary have their convent Mariero located next to the Church, and the Sisters of Mary are also the parish sisters of St. Lars Church.
The Church works closely with the Newman Institute in Uppsala. The Newman Institute is a college in Uppsala for the study of theology, philosophy and culture inspired by the English thinker, writer and cardinal John Henry Newman. Since 2007, most of the training in philosophy and theology for future Catholic priests in Sweden has been based at the Institute.
