Nimis, Arild
Facts and practical information
Nimis is a site-specific artwork by Lars Vilks at Håle stenar in northwestern Skåne. It consists mainly of several wooden structures, erected from driftwood, planks and tree branches. The work is illegally placed in the Kullaberg nature reserve, which has led to recurrent legal proceedings between the artist and the County Administrative Board of Skåne County since the first version was built in 1980. Parts of the work have been destroyed by fire on various occasions, and Vilk's reconstruction after a fire in 2016 led to a daily fine in Helsingborg District Court in 2018.
Vilks saw Nimis as conceptual art and the legal processes as part of the concept. Since 1986, the artwork was owned by the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Vilks himself considered it to be located within the boundaries of the proclaimed microstate of Ladonia. Another of Vilks' artworks, Arx, is also located in the area.
