Facts About Street Parade
The Street Parade is a legendary technoparade held annually in Zurich, Switzerland. Since the end of the Love Parade in 2010, it has become the world's most attended technoparade. This vibrant event, celebrating freedom, love, and tolerance, attracts up to a million participants. Held on the second Saturday of August, the parade weaves its way along the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich.
The parade began in 1992, initiated by Marek Krynski, with only around 1,000 people dancing behind two Lovemobiles. Since then, it has grown immensely. Significant milestones in its history include the establishment of the Street Parade Association in 1996, the introduction of official logos, and the development of unique themes and mottos for each year's event. Attendance has varied over the years, sometimes peaking at around one million participants.
The event is organized by the Verein Street Parade, which has been in charge since 1996. It combines the atmosphere of a massive festival with its legal status as a political demonstration, aiming to spread messages of peace and tolerance, according to its official website.
On the same day as the Street Parade, Zurich also hosts the Antiparade. This alternative event, which began in 1996, serves as a protest against the growing commercialization of club culture, akin to Berlin's Fuckparade.
