Rising majestically in the province of Ang Thong, the Great Buddha of Thailand is a colossal statue that commands attention and reverence. Known as the largest Buddha statue in Thailand and one of the tallest in the world, this impressive monument stands at a staggering height of 92 meters and is approximately 63 meters wide.
Constructed primarily of concrete and adorned with gold paint, the Great Buddha of Thailand, also referred to as The Big Buddha, Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin, or Mahaminh Sakayamunee Visejchaicharn, was completed in 2008 after 18 years of dedicated work. It is located within the Wat Muang Monastery, which is an attraction in its own right, featuring a tranquil setting and a host of smaller sculptures and religious icons.
The statue is not only a significant place of worship but also a cultural landmark that draws visitors from across the globe. The Great Buddha's serene expression and traditional posture, known as the "maravijaya" attitude, symbolize enlightenment and steadfastness against the temptations of Mara, the personification of evil according to Buddhist belief.
