Selimiye Mosque, Edirne

The Selimiye Mosque, a majestic and historically significant structure, stands proudly in the city of Edirne, Turkey. This mosque, completed in 1575, is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and is considered one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture. Its creator, the celebrated architect Mimar Sinan, regarded the Selimiye Mosque as his crowning achievement, and for good reason.

The mosque's grand dome, soaring to a height of 43.28 meters, dominates the skyline of Edirne. It is supported by eight massive pillars, creating a vast and open prayer space. The dome's impressive diameter of 31.28 meters was a daring architectural feat at the time and remains one of the largest in the world. The four slender minarets that rise from the corners of the mosque are the tallest in Turkey, each reaching a height of approximately 70 meters.

The Selimiye Mosque is not just a testament to engineering prowess; it is also a beacon of beauty.
