Strategic Missile Forces Museum

The Strategic Missile Forces Museum in Ukraine is a unique and sobering testament to the Cold War era. Situated in the Pervomaisk area, approximately 300 kilometers from Kyiv, this museum was once an operational base for Soviet intercontinental ballistic missiles. Today, it serves as a stark reminder of the nuclear tensions that once gripped the world.

Established in 2001, the museum preserves the history of strategic missile troops and offers a chilling glimpse into the military might that lay hidden beneath the earth's surface. Visitors can explore an extensive underground command post, which burrows 33 meters deep, and experience the austere conditions in which officers would have worked during a nuclear standoff.

The highlight of the museum is the R-36M missile, also known as the SS-18 'Satan', a formidable weapon that was the cornerstone of the Soviet strategic missile forces. The site also features an array of military equipment, including missile carriers and launchers, providing an in-depth look at the technology behind these awe-inspiring weapons.
