Derzhprom, Kharkiv

Derzhprom, also known as the Palace of Industry, is an iconic example of constructivism and one of the most distinctive buildings in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. This impressive office complex was erected between 1925-1928 and is considered one of the first skyscrapers in Europe.

Designed by architects Sergey Serafimov, Samuil Kravets, and Mark Felger, Derzhprom was a symbol of the new era of industrialization and modernization that took place in the Soviet Union. Comprised of several blocks connected by skybridges, the complex was designed to express the ideas of functionalism and efficiency.

The building is characterized by its austere aesthetics and lack of decorative elements, which was a reflection of the constructivist ideas of rejecting unnecessary ornaments in favor of simplicity and practicality. The 63-meter-high towers of Derzhprom dominate the city, and their glass facades were something innovative and bold at the time.

Derzhprom witnessed many important historical events and survived World War II, although it was partially damaged. Nevertheless, the building was reconstructed and continues to be an important business center in Kharkiv.

Today, Derzhprom is not only a workplace for many residents of the city but also a tourist attraction. Visitors can admire the architecture of the building and learn more about its history and significance for Kharkiv and Ukraine.
