When Is the Best Time To Visit Ukraine?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Ukraine depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Crimea: Tourist Season & Weather
The peak of the tourist season in Crimea falls in the summer months from June to August. We can count on the great weather, which is conducive to many forms of recreation. Starting from sightseeing, through blissful laziness on the beaches and sea bathing, ending with active tourism (such as trekking in the Crimean Mountains).
Autumn (September-November) and spring (April-May) are also relatively good months for a trip to the Crimean Peninsula. The weather is indeed a bit worse than in summer, but not enough to make the visit much more difficult. However, you have to reckon with lower temperatures and more cloudy skies.
In May and September, we can not complain about the lack of sunshine. These are good months to relax, especially for those who want to avoid the heat and crowds of tourists. From October, we have to reckon with the drop in temperatures and increased rainfall.
In winter, from December to mid-March, frosts and snowing begin in the mountains. This period is outside the tourist season. Many tourist attractions and trekking trails are inaccessible to tourists. The ski season is on in the Crimean Mountains at this time.

Season and weather by month
April - May
Apr | May |
Spring brings a breath of warmth and brightens up after winter. This is a good time for people who prefer a more intimate rest and want to avoid the greatest heat and crowds of tourists besieging beaches and sights.
It is worth remembering that the weather is still capricious, sometimes rainy and cloudy, sometimes sunny and rainless.
The Black Sea coast (including Yalta, Sevastopol, Yevpatoria, Alushta, Feodosia) is the warmest region of Crimea. The temperature here rises to an average of 50°F - 63°F, although there are also days when the temperature reaches 68°F. Coast may still be shrouded in fog, but it gets better day by day. At the end of May the swimming season begins and the sea temperature rises to around 68°F.
Inland, in the Northern Plain (so-called Crimean Lowland), it is drier and more windy. Frosts may appear at night.
Spring brightening and rising temperatures are also visible in the Crimean Mountains. Dry and warm fen-type winds begin to blow, causing snow to melt faster in the higher parts of the mountains, which in turn causes snow avalanches. The lower parts of the mountains begin to turn green and the first flowers appear.
June - August
Jun | Jul | Aug |
Summer months, the warmest and driest of the year, are the peak of the tourist season. The whole Crimean Peninsula has a great weather at that time.
The Black Sea coasts (including Yalta, Sevastopol, Yevpatoria, Alushta, Feodosia) are crowded with tourists enjoying the beauty of the beaches and the sea. Holiday resorts, hotels and beach cafés and restaurants are vibrant with life. In summer, we can count on full sunshine, cloudless sky and temperatures reaching an average of 73°F - 79°F. Hot days above 86°F are also not uncommon, but the cool breeze blowing from the sea relieves the heat a bit. The water in the sea is very warm, around 77°F - 81°F. Summer months are also the best time to visit the most important sights and explore the Crimean steppes.
During this period it is worth visiting Koktebel, the Crimean capital of wine and brandy, or see the vineyards near Massandra.
Trekking and mountain climbing fans can also count on an aura conducive to hiking and climbing the Crimean Mountains.
September - November
Sep | Oct | Nov |
The sunbathing and swimming season on the southern Black Sea coast continues until the end of September. In resorts and hotels, prices are falling and beaches are getting empty. This is a good time for people who want to save and spend time away from the crowds. It is warm, but not hot, so you can still enjoy sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Hiking and exploring the Crimean steppes also should be without any worries about the weather.
A typical autumn begins in October, the temperature drops to around 54°F - 64°F, stronger winds appear and there is much more rainfall. The advantage of this period is beautiful nature in a colorful autumn version as well as ripe vegetables and fruits. October is a good month for people who want to visit cities and the greatest monuments, as well as for convalescents and who take advantage of health and spa treatments. Also, lovers of forest hikes and mushroom picking will not complain about the weather.
In November, the temperature drops below 50°F, and in the higher parts of the mountains it fluctuates around 32°F. In the Crimean Mountains, especially in the south-eastern part of the Black Sea coast, landslides and mudslides may occur as a result of frequent rainfall.
December - March
Dec | Jan | Feb | Mar |
The beginning of winter brings much cooler weather. Temperatures range from 23°F to 41°F, and the sun is less and less visible in the sky. Many tourist attractions and trekking trails are not available for tourists.
The Black Sea coasts (including Yalta, Sevastopol, Yevpatoria, Alushta, Feodosia) are usually more cheerful than the rest of Crimea. Great frosts and snow are rare here, at worst they can appear in a very light and short form. However, much more often than snowfall there are rains.
Inland, in the Northern Plain (so-called Crimean Lowland), the winter months are humid and cool. The temperature drops below 32°F, it is cloudy and windy, which makes the perceived temperature even lower.
The Crimean Mountains are the coldest region. Here, negative temperatures persist almost throughout the winter, and snow lies from late December to mid-March. During this time, the ski season is on.
