Aldar headquarters building, Abu Dhabi
Facts and practical information
The Aldar headquarters building is a striking architectural marvel and a prominent landmark in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Resembling a perfect circle in the skyline, the building is the first of its kind in the Middle East, setting a new benchmark for futuristic design and engineering.
Completed in 2010, the Aldar headquarters stands at a modest height of 110 meters, but its distinctive shape and reflective glass façade make it an unmissable sight. It was designed by the renowned architectural firm MZ Architects, who drew inspiration from the clamshell, which has a deep cultural significance in the region, representing the country's maritime heritage.
The building's circular design is not just aesthetically pleasing but also serves a functional purpose, offering panoramic views of the city and the Arabian Gulf. The structure is composed of a diagonal grid of steel, which supports the glass façade without the need for columns, giving the building its smooth, seamless appearance.
The Aldar headquarters building is used for office space and serves as the corporate base for Aldar Properties PJSC, Abu Dhabi's leading property development, management, and investment company. Its innovative design has been recognized with several awards, including the Best Futuristic Design by The Building Exchange (BEX) Conference in Spain.
