Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Delray Beach

Nestled in the heart of Delray Beach, Florida, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens offers a serene and culturally enriching experience that stands out in Palm Beach County. The museum, which opened its doors in 1977, is named after George Morikami, a Japanese immigrant who donated his land to Palm Beach County with the vision of preserving the memory of the Yamato Colony, an early 20th-century Japanese farming community. Today, the Morikami Museum continues to honor this legacy through its extensive collections and exhibits that showcase Japanese art and artifacts.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a variety of exhibits that span a range of periods and styles, from ancient to contemporary. The museum hosts rotating exhibitions, ensuring that there is always something new to discover. The Roji-en: Garden of the Drops of Dew is a highlight, inviting contemplation among its carefully placed rocks and water features. The garden's design encourages a meditative journey, culminating in the quiet beauty of the raked gravel garden, which symbolizes the vastness of the ocean and the islands of Japan.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens also feature a library, a gift shop with an array of Japanese goods, and the Cornell Café, which offers a taste of Japanese cuisine with a view overlooking the gardens.
