Temple Square, Salt Lake City

Temple Square is the spiritual and cultural epicenter of Salt Lake City, renowned as the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). This ten-acre complex is not only a hub for religious gatherings but also a significant tourist attraction, drawing millions of visitors annually.

At the heart of Temple Square stands the iconic Salt Lake Temple, an imposing granite edifice that took 40 years to complete, from 1853 to 1893. Though the temple itself is not open to the public, its striking Gothic and Romanesque architecture make it a focal point for photography and admiration. The temple is set to reopen in 2024 after a major renovation that began in 2019.

Surrounding the temple are the Tabernacle, home to the world-famous Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, and the Assembly Hall, a charming Gothic-style meetinghouse. The Family History Library, the world's largest genealogical library, is also part of the complex, offering visitors a chance to trace their ancestry.

Visitors can explore the beautifully manicured grounds with complimentary tours provided by volunteer missionaries. The Square also features the Church History Museum and the Visitor Centers, where interactive exhibits and artwork deepen the understanding of the LDS Church's history and beliefs.
