Its mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people in San Diego, Northern Baja California, and the Imperial County region. Lambda Archives preserves varied items such as ephemera, manuscripts, event memorabilia, photographs, textiles, and much more. As of 2019, the collections include approximately 100,000 photographs; about 13,000 of those are digitized. ()
