Darwin D. Martin House, Buffalo

The Darwin D. Martin House is a testament to architectural brilliance nestled in the city of Buffalo, New York. This museum is not just a house, but a masterpiece created by the renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Constructed between 1903 and 1905, the complex was designed for Darwin D. Martin, a prominent businessman, and his family.

This architectural gem is a part of the Prairie School movement, characterized by its integration with the landscape, horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofs with broad overhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, solid construction, craftsmanship, and restraint in the use of decoration. Wright's design philosophy, termed "organic architecture," aimed to create harmony between human habitation and the natural world through these design techniques.

The complex includes several buildings: the main Martin House, the Barton House (designed for Martin's sister and her family), a conservatory, a carriage house, a gardener's cottage, and the George Barton House. After falling into disrepair in the latter half of the 20th century, the Martin House has undergone extensive restoration, bringing it back to its former glory.
