The Groundlings

The Groundlings is an iconic improvisational and sketch comedy troupe and school based in Los Angeles, United States. Founded in 1974 by Gary Austin, The Groundlings has become a renowned incubator for comedic talent, with many of its alumni going on to achieve fame and influence in the entertainment industry.

Situated on Melrose Avenue, the theater's intimate setting provides an ideal environment for the dynamic performances that take place on its stage. The Groundlings School offers improvisation classes that cater to a wide range of skills and experience levels, from beginners to seasoned performers. The Groundlings Theatre is also known for its Sunday Company, a stepping stone for performers who aspire to become part of the Main Company, which is comprised of no more than 30 members at any time.
