Lighthouse in Punta del Este - a navigation sign in the form of a tower located in the city of Punta del Este in the southwestern part of Uruguay, on the west coast of the southern Atlantic. It lies on a narrow peninsula, which is the southernmost point of the country.
The lantern was put into service on November 17, 1860. It was designed by Tomás Libarena. For its construction, volcanic materials imported from Italy were used. The electrically powered lens comes from France. Originally, in 1958 it was installed in the lighthouse on the island of Lobos. The lantern was renovated and rebuilt in 1923. Biała, 25 meters high, cylindrical tower is topped with white and red lateher. Light of the lantern located 44 m a.s.l. Gives 2 white flashes every 8 seconds. Its intensity is 43,000 candy, the range is 8.8 nautical miles. It is served by lighthouse keys.
The lantern is available to visitors. Entering it is possible thanks to the spiral stairs of 150 degrees.
