Venezuela International Book Fair

The Venezuela International Book Fair, commonly known as FILVEN, has been a prominent event in the country since its inception in 2005. Organized by the Venezuelan government, FILVEN aims to foster a love for reading and create a venue where book enthusiasts and authors can connect. Initially held in Caracas, the fair has since expanded to various regions nationwide. Despite the different locations and dates, every regional edition operates under the same name, slogan, and core principles.

The inaugural FILVEN in 2005 was a grand affair, featuring representatives from 30 Latin American countries and more than 60 international guests. In subsequent years, the fair has paid tribute to countries such as Cuba, Argentina, and Ecuador, with themes focusing on the Caribbean, revolution, and national readership. Each edition not only honors distinguished writers but also brings together national and international publishers, attracts renowned intellectuals, and promotes critical thinking.

Over the years, FILVEN has marked significant milestones, such as the bicentennial celebrations of independence for various Latin American countries. The fair has also paid homage to influential figures like Hugo Chavez. With its focus on promoting literature and encouraging cultural exchange, FILVEN has continued to grow, honoring different countries as special guests and exploring the ever-evolving landscape of publishing in Latin America.
