Isla de Plata is the name given to an island in the Caribbean Sea that is administratively included in the Guanta Municipality in the north of the Anzoátegui State and northeast of the South American country of Venezuela.
It has an area of 3.34 hectares 150 meters long by 30 meters wide and 5 meters high, and is located near Monos Island and the Guanta Peninsula. Its landscape is full of coconut trees and waters with different blues make it a popular seaside resort and tourist destination included in the Mochima National Park. The reflection of the sea on the waters that it is said can be seen silver color gave rise to its current name.
The island also has many stories from colonial times, including those of characters such as the British Henry Morgan, who is said to have taken refuge there before attacking Maracaibo or those of Sir Francis Drake, who is said to have hidden a supposed treasure there. In August 2013 a water park was inaugurated there with the support and supervision of the municipal authorities. Camping is allowed in the place with prior authorization from Inparques. It is accessible only by sea from Guanta.
