Arco de Taguanes
Facts and practical information
The Taguanes Arch is a monument commemorating the Battle of Taguanes in the city of Tinaquillo, in Cojedes, Venezuela. It was a confrontation that was led by lancers commanded by Generals Atanasio Girardot, Fernando Figueredo and Rafael Urdaneta, who reached Colonel Julián Izquierdo, commander of the Spanish army in the savannahs of Taguanes and caused his defeat in this arid plain where the then sergeant José Laurencio Silva performed feats of valor.
At the top of the arch is written: "Admirable Campaign the government and people of the state to the glory of the heroes of Tinaquillo and Taguanes. In the first centenary of those Libertarian days."
The monument or Arco de Taguanes was built in 1913, under the administration of Governor Jose Felipe Arcay, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the battle that took place on July 31, 1813.
