Chùa Trấn Quốc, Hanoi

Chùa Trấn Quốc, nestled on a small peninsula on the eastern shore of Hanoi's West Lake, is the oldest Buddhist temple in the city, boasting a history that dates back over 1,500 years. This revered site, characterized by its striking architecture and tranquil ambiance, is a cultural bastion and a serene escape from the bustling city life of Vietnam's capital.

With origins tracing back to the sixth century during the reign of Emperor Lý Nam Đế, Chùa Trấn Quốc was initially named Khai Quốc (National Founder) and later renamed in the fifteenth century. The temple is a distinctive example of Vietnamese Buddhist architecture, with a harmonious blend of historical significance and spiritual solemnity.

The temple complex features a tall, eleven-story lotus-shaped stupa that towers over the surrounding landscape. Each of the stupa's floors displays a statue of Buddha, encapsulating various expressions and postures associated with Buddhist iconography. Inside the temple grounds, visitors can wander through a series of intricately carved gates, leading to courtyards adorned with ancient banyan trees and venerable shrines.
