Casa del Gobernador Manuel Lagraña, Corrientes
Facts and practical information
The Governor Manuel Lagraña's House is located at the intersection of Salta and Carlos Pellegrini streets, in the city of Corrientes, Argentina.
The house that belonged to the governor of Corrientes, Manuel Lagraña, was the seat of important events related to the Paraguayan War, when General Robles, in command of the Paraguayan forces, took the city of Corrientes and established his headquarters there, on April 14th, 1865. Later, the house had different uses, and since 1976 it has been the seat of the Judicial Power of Corrientes. Built around 1860, it is a typical exponent of the "main house" of the Confederation period. It occupies almost a quarter of a city block and, built with mud brick walls, it is arranged in a single floor around three courtyards with galleries; on the axis of the composition, marking the access, there is a loft. The artistic ironwork gate at the back of the hallway and the wrought iron parapets at the top of the roof stand out.
By Decree 325/1989 this house was declared a National Historic Monument.
