Mogote Bayo Nature Reserve was created in 2000, by the Fundación Espacios Verdes.
The project Aprendiendo en Verde, allowed the implementation of the Natural Reserve Mogote Bayo through the participation in an international competition of the company Mitsui Co & Ltd and the technical support of JICA, thus the financial sponsorship was achieved for almost three years for its development,.
The area where the project "Learning in Green" was applied for the Natural Reserve Mogote Bayo, is where the hill Mogote Bayo is located, an emblematic place for the community of Merlo, where the Cross and the Way of the Cross that the Catholic community of the place placed.
The Reserve is located in the mountainous area of the Sierras de los Comechingones, Merlo San Luis.
The FEV, had the task of launching the RNMB, 113 hectares, which joins from the top of the mountains with a forest of molles and the Salto del Tabaquillo. The FEV, in turn, owns 250 hectares in the most emblematic area of Villa de Merlo, where the Salto del Tabaquillo is located and provides 60% of the drinking water of the place. In 2011, the FEV decided to donate the 250 hectares to the Provincial State, for its territorial reorganization, since it is a place where many tourist and recreational activities of the region converge.
