Cataratas del Iguazú, Buenos Aires
Facts and practical information
The monument to the Iguazu Falls is located in the small square of the Province of Misiones, on the corner of Avenida de Mayo and 9 de Julio Avenue in Buenos Aires. It is located in one of the most central points of the city, a few blocks from the Obelisk and the Casa Rosada. It was inaugurated on December 11, 2013.
The monument as a whole is located on a surface surrounded by a fence of more than 250 m long. The most significant sector is an elevated wall that forms an incomplete circumference that represents the Garganta del Diablo, one of the most famous waterfalls in the Misiones National Park. From the upper part of the wall and along its entire length, water flows continuously, completing the symbolism. The open sector of the circumference has a flat shape as a walkway, which allows visitors to approach the waterfall.
The work was coordinated by the architect Sergio Dobrusín and for its realization was used the so-called "piedra mora", a material typical of the geological formation of the Iguazú Falls and that was transferred from the province of Misiones to the city of Buenos Aires in order to strengthen the symbolism of the monument.
