Church of the Redeemer, Wiener Neustadt
Facts and practical information
The Filial Church of the Most Holy Redeemer is a Roman Catholic church of the Provost Parish of the Cathedral in Wiener Neustadt, located at Brunner Straße 5-7.
A former hall of a shoe factory, built in 1919, was converted into a church from 1931 to 1932 according to the plans of architect Clemens Holzmeister. The flat long rectangular building shows a facade with pilaster strips and eaves cornice made of brickwork. In the roof area there is a rectangular blind gable, which is pierced for a bell and crowned by a simple cross. In the flat-roofed hall, the area of the presbytery is slightly elevated and somewhat set off from the congregation room by wooden side fixtures. On the east wall there was originally a crucifix by the sculptor Anton Hanak, which was replaced after the war by a work by Johann Coleselli. A modern figure of the Madonna was made by the sculptor Hans Andre. The reverse glass painting of the Stations of the Cross was created by the painter Thiem-Samassa.
