Hagenberg Castle is a listed castle complex in Upper Austria and stands in the village of Hagenberg im Mühlkreis in the Mühlviertel region. The castle was first mentioned around 1370 and changed hands several times. From 1928 its decay began, in the 1960s it became uninhabitable. From 1983 the castle was renovated by the municipality with the help of the province of Upper Austria and since 1989 it has housed the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation of the Johannes Kepler University Linz, founded by Bruno Buchberger. Subsequently, the Softwarepark Hagenberg was built around the RISC, which also houses the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Computer Science, Communication and Media. The entire town benefited from the Software Park and the University of Applied Sciences through additional jobs.
