Archäologischer Park Magdalensberg
Facts and practical information
The town on the Magdalensberg is a Norse settlement inhabited from the 1st century BC to the middle of the 1st century AD on the slopes and summit plateau of the Magdalensberg on the edge of the Carinthian customs field. It was an important trading point before and during the initial phase of Roman occupation, especially for Norse iron. The settlement was abandoned after the construction of the Roman town of Virunum on the Zollfeld, and the documented duration of settlement was only about 90 years. The most important single find is the young man from Magdalensberg.
