Heidenturm
Facts and practical information
The Heidenturm near Kittsee, also called Öder Turm, is the remains of a late medieval watch and bell tower of the church of the deserted village of Lebarn. It stands in the Ried Turmfeldäcker southwest of the village center of the present-day municipality of Kittsee in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland. The ruin has been under monument protection since September 1932.
The Heidenturm is the only structural remnant of the former village of Lebarn that survived the First Vienna Turkish Siege in 1529. In older literature, the tower was assigned to the Roman period and was already called turricula semidurata in 1527. In 1948 the tower was structurally repaired.
