Church of the Redeemer, Graz
Facts and practical information
The Church of the Redeemer is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in the seventh district of Liebenau in Graz. It belongs to the Evangelical daughter congregation Graz-Liebenau in the Superintendency of Styria of the Evangelical Church A. B. in Austria.
In the 1950s, Liebenau developed its own Protestant parish. It was therefore decided to build its own church and in 1959 the architect Ferdinand Schuster was commissioned to plan and execute the construction. The sacral building is built in the style of classical modernism and is recognizable as a church because of the bell tower and the monopitch roof. The cubic space is simple and functional in design and has square windows. The church was completed in 1963 and also according to Schuster's plans a rectory was built in 1968.
Before his election as Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendency A. B. Styria in 1983, Günter Matthias Rech served as pastor at the Church of the Redeemer.
