Facts About Chomchom
Chomchom, also known as cham cham or chum chum, is a cherished Bengali sweet savored throughout the Indian subcontinent. This delightful dessert comes in various colors, including pastel pink, light yellow, and white, and is typically garnished with coconut or mawa flakes, enhancing its flavor and texture.
One of the most renowned varieties is the Porabari chamcham, distinguished by its unique brownish oval shape. Originating from Porabari in the Tangail District of modern-day Bangladesh, its history dates back to the mid-19th century. The version we enjoy today was perfected by Matilal Gore, who drew inspiration from a recipe passed down by his grandfather, Raja Ramgore, from the Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, India.
