Facts About Korrigum
The korrigum, also known as the Senegal hartebeest, is a subspecies of the common tsessebe, an African antelope. As of 2008, approximately 2,650 of these animals remained.
Historically, korrigums roamed from southern Mauritania and Senegal all the way to western Chad. Regrettably, their numbers have dramatically decreased since the early 20th century. The primary reasons for this decline are displacement by cattle and intense hunting for their meat.
Today, korrigums are no longer found in Mauritania, Mali, Senegal, or The Gambia. It is also highly probable that they no longer exist in northern Togo, Nigeria, or western Chad, except perhaps as occasional wanderers.
