Bichinho is well known for its historical importance, and the settlement of the place began with the search for gold during the 18th century. The handicrafts of furniture, canvas, embroidery, crochet, carpets, sculptures and ornaments are also very present.
The name of the village is a tribute to Vitoriano Gonçalves Veloso, a black man who was born and lived in the region and worked as a tailor after being a freed slave, having been one of the participants of the Inconfidência Mineira. Initially the area belonged to the city of Tiradentes, but in 1938 its territory was annexed to Prados. It is part of the Inconfidentes Trail and the Estrada Real.
