Parque Costa Azul, Salvador
Facts and practical information
Costa Azul Park was built in 1995 in the neighborhood of the same name in the city of Salvador. Located by the river Camarajipe, the area that gave rise to the park was occupied by the ruins of the Clube Costa Azul and was the target for nearly two decades of demands from the population for the revitalization of the place. Today the park is an area dedicated to sports, leisure, and culture.
The Music in the Park project, held for the previous 12 years in the City Park, was brought to the Costa Azul in 2015, as the City Park was undergoing construction.
Administered by the state government of Bahia, through the Urban Development Company of Bahia, the park had gastronomic and sports space, when in 2013 the area of four restaurants was closed after a repossession order, due to default. Some of the restaurants owed payment related to the concession of the exploitation of those public spaces. In March 2016, it was reported that the rental debt of 2.5 million reais with Conder persists, there is deterioration of the park and homeless people occupy the site. It was also reported that Conder uses the area of the restaurants as a file of its Directorate of Structural Works and the Coordination of Expropriations and that the entire park is the target of a future bidding, under analysis, for maintenance of the park, construction and operation of the restaurants and gyms.
