Parque Alim Pedro, Porto Alegre
Facts and practical information
Parque Alim Pedro is a Brazilian park that is located in the northern part of the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre. It is located in the Passo D'Areia neighborhood, within the construction cluster known as Vila do IAPI, more precisely on Avenida dos Industriários. Next to the park, separated by Tupanciretã street, is Largo Elis Regina.
With an area of 45 thousand m², the Park contains a soccer field, called "Estádio Alim Pedro"; a 400-meter walking track; two multi-sports courts; two bocce courts; drinking fountains and changing rooms, besides a vast wooded area.
Its construction began in the 1940s, coordinated by engineer Edmundo Gardolinski, responsible for the construction of the IAPI Village, and was inaugurated on February 27, 1950 by President Eurico Gaspar Dutra. The first official soccer game at the site took place on May 7th of the same year.
The Alim Pedro Park hosts several events, such as Criançando, which takes place on Children's Day, and the Paquetá Cup. On the eve of Carnaval, the União da Vila do IAPI usually holds rehearsals in the park. In addition, the community itself usually organizes the traditional Fogueira do IAPI, a June party with bonfire, stalls and shows.
In 2013 the park received a revitalization work as a compensatory measure for the Environmental License of OAS for the occupation of an area in the Humaitá neighborhood for the construction of the Arena do Grêmio. The official reopening of the park took place on September 20, 2014. The revitalization consisted in the recomposition and shingling of the soccer field, the recovery of the athletics track around the field, the recovery of the multi-sports courts and the paving of the sidewalks. In addition, the park also received the Prof. Ermínio Decó Trail, in honor of the renowned Lasallian educator in the region, known as Brother Benjamin.
