The Statue of Saint Francis is a monument to Saint Francis in erected in the municipality of Canindé, located in the Brazilian state of Ceará. the sculptor was Master Bibi, also responsible for several other well-known works. The religious and tourist monument inaugurated on October 4, 2005, bigger even than the Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, and smaller than Santa Rita de Cássia, in Santa Cruz-RN, had its services started in 2015, but the works were stopped. Early last year the acting mayor, Celso Crisóstomo, had announced the return of the works, but his term ended and the recovery was not completed. The work made the city of Canindé have the largest monument to São Francisco in the world.
According to the municipal administration, the image of the patron saint of Canindé was covered with vitrified ceramic tiles, size 2x2cm, imported from China. There are 789 square meters of tiles, with 2,250,000 pieces in brown. The construction, done by Magna Locações, used 18 tons of iron and 3.5 thousand 50kg bags of cement.
Inside the statue of St. Francis, a stairway with 125 steps leads to a gazebo with seating for 15 people.
