Canadian War Museum, Ottawa

The Canadian War Museum, located in the heart of Ottawa, stands as a poignant tribute to Canada's military history. This modern facility, with its striking architecture, was opened in May 2005 and offers a comprehensive overview of Canada's involvement in armed conflict throughout its history.

Designed by renowned architect Raymond Moriyama, the museum's building is a symbolic representation of hope and regeneration. Its exterior is clad in copper, which will gradually develop a verdigris patina over time, symbolizing the healing process and the passage of time.

One of its most notable exhibits includes the Regeneration Hall, a space designed to evoke contemplation, with a view towards the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.

The museum also features the Memorial Hall, a space dedicated to remembrance, where at 11 a.m. on Remembrance Day, sunlight illuminates the headstone of Canada's Unknown Soldier. This poignant moment is one of the museum's most profound experiences.
