Facts About Degú
Degus are intriguing rodents belonging to the Octodontidae family, commonly referred to as common degus. These small creatures are classified into two principal groups: Octodon and Octodontomys.
Within the Octodon group, there are several species:
- O. bridgesi: Known as Bridges's degu
- O. degus: Commonly referred to as the common degu
- O. lunatus: Known as the moon-toothed degu
- O. pacificus: Referred to as the Mocha Island degu or Pacific degu
The Octodontomys group includes the following species:
- O. gliroides: Known as the mountain degu
These species are indigenous to various regions of South America, including Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia.
