The Pseudoxenodon macrops, commonly known as the large-eyed bamboo snake or Chinese false cobra, is a captivating venomous snake native to Asia. This species exhibits considerable diversity in appearance, often displaying shades ranging from brown to nearly black, with distinctive short crossbars.
Three recognized subspecies of Pseudoxenodon macrops exist: Pseudoxenodon macrops fukiensis, Pseudoxenodon macrops macrops, and Pseudoxenodon macrops sinensis. These snakes inhabit various regions, including India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, West Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, and parts of China. Interestingly, they have also recently been observed in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh.
