Dwarf musk deer

The dwarf musk deer, also known as the Chinese forest musk deer, is a captivating small mammal found in southern and central China, as well as the northernmost regions of Vietnam. This distinctive species has been listed as endangered in China since June 14, 1976, underscoring its precarious status.

There are four recognized subspecies of the dwarf musk deer, each with unique characteristics. These subspecies are:

- M. b. berezovskii

- M. b. bijiangensis

- M. b. caobangis

- M. b. yanguiensis

These subspecies contribute significantly to the biodiversity of their respective habitats and emphasize the critical need for conservation initiatives to ensure their protection.
