Huangshan
Facts and practical information
Huangshan, also known as the Yellow Mountains, is a breathtaking natural wonder and a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in the Anhui province of eastern China. Renowned for its scenic beauty, Huangshan encompasses a spectacular array of granite peaks, often shrouded in a veil of mist, creating an ethereal atmosphere that has been the subject of countless traditional Chinese paintings and literature.
The park spans an area of about 1,200 square kilometers, with its highest peak, Lotus Peak, rising approximately 1,864 meters above sea level. Huangshan is distinguished by its 'four wonders' – peculiarly-shaped granite peaks, ancient pine trees that grow out of the rocks, hot springs, and a sea of clouds that offers visitors a surreal experience.
Visitors can explore Huangshan through a network of trails and cable cars that provide access to various scenic spots. The area is home to numerous flora and fauna, including some rare and endangered species. The iconic pine trees, such as the Greeting Pine, are known for their resilience and peculiar growth amidst the rocks.
Huangshan's hot springs are another highlight, located at the foot of the Purple Cloud Peak. They are believed to have therapeutic properties and offer a relaxing respite after a day of trekking. The sea of clouds phenomenon, where dense clouds envelop the peaks, creates an otherworldly landscape that is especially popular among photographers and nature enthusiasts.
