The Plaza de Cayzedo is the main square of the city of Cali, in Valle del Cauca. It was known as La Plaza Mayor during colonial times, until 1813 when it was called Plaza de la Constitución. In 1913 it was given its current name in honor of the hero of the independence of Valle del Cauca and Cali martyr Joaquín de Cayzedo y Cuero, and was adorned with a statue of him in the center. It is surrounded by numerous buildings, among which stand out the National Palace, the Otero Building and the Cathedral of San Pedro, cataloged next to the square as national monuments.
